The world’s most upmarket beauty pageant - without a bikini in sight

It must be one of the most upmarket beauty pageants ever - without a bikini in sight.
Women from across the Arab world came together to compete in the Miss Arab World contest in Cairo - with Miss Bahrain, Wafa Yaqoop, being crowned the winner.

Candidates came from 16 Arab countries including Egypt, Lebanon, Sudan, Iraq, Libya and Palestine.

It is the second time the competition has been staged.

Understanding Food Label

You know how books have a table of contents that explains what’s inside? Or maybe you’ve received a toy that came with a diagram that identified each small piece. Nutrition labels are sort of like that. They tell you what’s inside the food you’re eating and list its smaller partsand you usually don’t have to look hard to find it. Fresh food that doesn’t come prepackaged sometimes has nutrition facts, too.

The Nutrition Facts food label gives you information about which nutrients (say: nu-tree-ents) are in the food. Your body needs the right combination of nutrients, such as vitamins, to work properly and grow. The Nutrition Facts food label is printed somewhere on the outside of packaged food, and you usually don’t have to look hard to find it. Fresh food that doesn’t come prepackaged sometimes has nutrition facts, too.

Grim rea-purr: The cat that can predict death

The footsteps down the corridor of the Steere House Nursing And Rehabilitation Centre are light but purposeful as Oscar makes his way towards the end of the hallway and stops outside room 310.

The door is pulled firmly shut and, untroubled, he sits down outside it, and waits some 25 minutes until a nurse’s aide appears, her arms full of dirty linen.

“Ah, Oscar,” she smiles, and with a nod, almost as if she were expecting him, allows him to pass into the room where a frail elderly lady, her body ravaged by cancer, is sleeping fitfully. Oscar sniffs ostentatiously around, resists the blandishments of the relatives gathered round the bedside, struts out and continues on his round. For the lady in room 310, the time has not yet come.
